Kathputlis of India
The word comes from Kaath which means wood and putli which means toy, together they give us Kathputli and memories from childhood that are so dear to us now. Popular in Rajasthan as a local form of art and entertainment, these puppets used for puppet shows have made a way into our homes across the globe when the puppeteers had to start selling the puppets to sustain.
It is the story as old as time today, with everything going digital, how often do you see that man/woman who would come around in the streets around evening and everyone would gather around for a good show and you could pay them any amount you had, no expensive ticket for this show.
Puppets shows are performed in each and every village, religious gatherings and any other kind of social gathering in Rajasthan. It is also known as the string marionette art because of the similarities with the ancient art of puppeteering of Europe. People of Rajasthan deem this as a part of their culture and heritage and carry around these puppets with pride
